PARENT SUPPORT GROUPS
Many people have mentioned to us over the years that they would like to have a forum to connect with other families and explore topics related to the common experience of dealing with having a child in a therapeutic program. We have heard these requests, and are pleased to share with you that Educational Resources Unlimited will be developing an ongoing parent support group as part of our practice.
Lisa Hertz Apkon will facilitate the ERU support group. Lisa is a Westchester mother of three, has had two teenagers in both a wilderness program and a therapeutic boarding school, has an MA in Social Work, and is a Certified Parent Coach. She is uniquely qualified to truly understand the challenges parents face at this difficult time as well as to provide insight. She believes there is tremendous strength gained when parents who have had similar experiences connect. Lisa has seen the impact of parents supporting, validating and empathizing with one another. When parents join together to share stories and experiences and support each other, they create a community that can be powerfully helpful.
We are humbled by our own experiences as parents and appreciate how even our best efforts and intentions may not prevent our children from struggling. Our hope is that this group offers you the courage, resilience and strength that you have given your children, and provides you with the opportunity to meet with other parents on a similar journey. We encourage and welcome you to join us.
